Introduction to our new County Commissioner: Eddie Hulme

Date: 9th May 2022 Author: Jordan Ashley

Hi Everyone,

It has been nearly 7 years since I was actively involved within Shropshire Scouting, apart from a short stint helping Borders District before Nickie’s appointment, and it is great to be back fulltime as part of the County Team supporting local Scouting.

I would like to thank Dexter for his commitment and fabulous work during his tenure as County Commissioner steering us through one of the most difficult times in our history. I have known Dexter since he started in Scouts in my old Scout Group at Lilleshall within Tern Valley District. It gave me great pride to see him lead Shropshire over the past few years as one of the youngest County Commissioners we have seen in England. It will be a hard act to follow and I hope I can continue his work over the next couple of years to help deliver the Strategic Transformation of Scouting within Shropshire. I wish him all the best in his new adventures both nationally and locally. Dexter has agreed to remain as part of our County team as well as holding other active Scouting roles outside of Shropshire.

In the next couple of weeks , myself and the three DC’s , Nickie, Kevin and Darren will be attending the Summit , Basecamp 22 in Manchester , where the Association will set out the goals for the transformation of Scouting as we know it by 2025.  I have spent the last few years in the West Midlands in a growth and development role and have witnessed the amazing programmes being delivered locally by highly motivated volunteers.  I am  excited to be able to get involved here in my home county to help deliver more of the same for our young people.  As the Basecamp  Summit Headline says “ The summit is what drives us. But how we climb is what matters. We all want to achieve our amazing goals in the next stage of our Skills For Life strategy. But this year is all about how we get there. It’ll be a moment to come together and agree how we do that climb and make sure everyone’s prepared for the journey ahead.”   The County Team will take the output from Basecamp as a foundation of our plan for the next three years to support local Scouting across the whole of Shropshire.

During Covid we have been limited with what we could do.  Now coming out of lockdown it’s a chance for us to achieve so much more.  Watch out for the news when we get back from the Summit.

I hope to spend the next few months getting around the county meeting as many people as I can and attending local events, diary permitting. ( many thanks for existing invites I have received in the last few days ) Please feel free to get in touch via email, phone or social media.

Yours in Scouting

Eddie Hulme
