Dan Potter – Gone Home – Updated Funeral Arrangements

Date: 9th Sep 2024 Author: Eddie Hulme

It is with immense sadness that I announce to our Shropshire Scouting Family the sudden loss over the weekend of Daniel Potter , our inspirational Regional Commissioner for the West Midlands, former Shropshire County Commissioner ,  Explorer Leader for Severn and Teme, Group Scout Leader at Ludlow , Scout and friend to everyone in Scouting across Shropshire, West Midlands and Nationally.

I know that many of us would not be volunteering and giving opportunities for skills for life to youngsters but for Dan’s enthusiasm and support.  He will be missed by all of us.  Dan was to attend our AGM on 11th September  and I spoke with him  before he passed and he was so looking forward to the occasion and to thank us for the amazing work we have all done in Shropshire over the last year.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kathryn and his children at this difficult time.

We now have details of the funeral arrangements:

The funeral has now been confirmed as the Friday 11th October at St Paul’s Church Dosthill. 16 Church Rd, Tamworth B77 1LU. At 10:00. Then to the Crematorium address and time to follow.

Dan is to be placed into his coffin in his Scout uniform, so those attended are asked to wear full uniform. There is also a request for 4 to 6 Scout Volunteers to carry the coffin during the service anyone wishing to help here, please contact the County Lead Volunteer who will pass on your details.
There will be an open invitation to Scouts to come along to the wake afterwards which is to be held at Drayton Manor Golf Club. Centenary Drive, Tamworth B78 3TN
Any donation is to be for Scouting and it is felt the local group at Dosthill where Dan was the GSL would benefit the most. Details for this are to be arranged.
I have passed on as many best wishes as I could but if you wish to send your condolences, please address them to
Kathryn Hollis , Arboury, 32 Wilford Road, Dosthill, Tamworth, B77 1LY

Yours in Scouting

Eddie Hulme

County Lead Volunteer
