1st Lilleshall and Muxton 40: 40 Mile Challenge

Date: 24th Jun 2019 Author: Scout Websites
This year 1st Lilleshall and Muxton celebrate their fortieth anniversary and have a packed calendar of events to recognise their achievement.

Having already performed a fantastic, fun, creative Gang Show earlier in the year this weekend they moved onto their 40 mile Sponsored Walk.

Over 50 walkers took part with 8 members completing the full 40 miles in 15 hours, whilst some of the younger sections found success in completing shorter sections; including a summit of the Wrekin.

Before the walk Pat Sumnall; Group Scout Leader, who has been with the Group for the full 40 years said: ““We wanted to do something challenging and fun to celebrate our 40th year in the spirit of adventure. “It will be a long day and hopefully the weather will be kind to us – but everyone is very excited to take on the challenge.”

Of her 40 years with the Group, Pat said: Watching the children grow up has been very rewarding, as they learn so many skills that will help them in later life”

Those skills came to the surface when some members of the Group were asked to talk about their experiences on BBC Radio Shropshire over the weekend as well.

Other activities include a birthday where the Group would love to see as many past members and find out what we’ve all gone on to do. More details can be found on 1st Lilleshall and Muxton Facebook Page.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
